The Institute of Molecular Systems Biology (IMSB) is in the Department of Biology at the ETH Zurich. IMSB engages in the research and teaching of the emerging,
interdisciplinary science of systems biology and is housed on the ETH campus Hönggerberg.


Project background

The honeybee, a major pollinator crucial for our ecosystems, agriculture and economy, is threatened by the parasitic mite Varroa destructor. We aim to develop an easy, efficient and sustainable method to control the mite population.


Job description

We are looking for a motivated and skilled technician to support an interdisciplinary project tackling the global problem of honeybee decline. Our current feasibility study lasts until September 30th, 2022 (extension possible). Starting date as per agreement.

Our team at ETH Zürich is part of a Swiss consortium and will establish an cell culture-based assay system to test RNA targeting reagents. Your main responsibility is to perform quantitative insect cell-based assays.


Your profile

You have an apprenticeship certificate (Biologielaborant*in) or a higher education (e.g. Bachelor / Master) in biology and significant experience in

  • cell culture work (preferentially Drosophila cell culture)
  • cell-based quantitative assays using a microplate reader (e.g., dual luciferase assay or measuring fluorescent protein activity)
  • molecular biology techniques (cloning, qPCR, RNA preparation)
  • You should possess

    • Fluency in English and German
    • Excellent organizational, communication and social skills
    • Ability to work in a team and also independently
