Teaching coordinator for eDNA MOOC

The ecosystem and landscape evolution research group aims to understand the link between landscape dynamics and biodiversity. In our research, we use, develop and teach novel approaches to better understand diversity patterns. We are looking for a teaching coordinator for a newly offered course about environmental DNA. Starting time: November 2022 or upon agreement. The position is limited to 1 year.

Project background

We are creating a new massive open online course (MOOC) about environmental DNA (eDNA). The goal of the course is to teach participants all over the world about the basics, limitations, and best practices of using eDNA for biodiversity monitoring. An important aspect of this teaching format is that the students are only receiving small inputs from the lecturers in form of a short video and then working individually on the topic ensuring an optimal learning process. Your task will be to prepare the necessary material for this course. 

Job description

• Develop scripts for the educational videos
• Assist with the filming and editing of the videos
• Prepare questions and quizzes for the students
• Upload the material to the online platform.
• Maintenance and support of the online platform

Your profile

• Degree in biology or environmental sciences, experience in teaching
• Didactical knowledge to prepare an engaging course aiming at a broad audience 
• Creative functioning and work
• Previous experiences with teaching, filming and editing videos are a plus. 
• You are fluent in English
• You work independently, have good communications skills and are motivated to further improve teaching at ETH
