Student Assistant in Computer Science & Law

The Center for Law & Economics at ETH Zurich conducts empirical and experimental research in law & economics. At the Center, Professor Stefan Bechtold is looking for a student assistant with experience in web scraping, database management, and coding to assist in research projects on regulating digital platforms and the digital economy.


Job description

You are a student in computer science, statistics, economics, or a related discipline. You are interested in working on projects that focus on competition policy, privacy, consumer protection, and online contracts. Our projects involve scraping content from websites, storing the content in databases, and analyzing the content, using statistical and natural-language processing tools. 


Your profile
  • You have proven experience with web scraping, Python, MongoDB, and SQL, and ideally also NLP, statistical methods deploying code to Linux VMs.
  • You are a registered student at a university in Zurich or nearby.
  • You are at a stage of your studies where, during the semester, you can dedicate 10 to 15 hours per week (potentially more outside of the semester).
  • You are interested in designing and conducting interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with a team of legal and economics scholars.
