PMOD/WRC is a research & calibration institution, located in Davos, Switzerland. As part of its solar- and climate research activities, the institute is strongly involved in various space projects. The technical department offers a position as an electronics engineer for space projects such as the ESA TRUTHS mission and the JAXA Solar-C mission. The working location is Davos Dorf, Switzerland. The institute is international with staff and visitors from across the world.  PMOD/WRC is a small institute (~50 people) with a friendly atmosphere. PMOD/WRC is closely linked to ETHZ and holds an affiliated professorship at the ETHZ department D-Phys.


Job description

The PMOD/WRC Technical Department is seeking an Electronics Engineer to underpin the design, fabrication, testing, and integration of scientific space instruments. Your main tasks are:

  • Design of schematics and layout of printed circuit boards for digital and analog systems according to ESA space standards.
  • Build and test printed circuit boards, including internal soldering of prototypes.
  • Develop test plans and write test documentation.
  • Purchasing, handling and qualification of high-reliability components for space applications

Intensive and accurate 

  • documentation of developed hardware/instruments according to ESA space standards (ECSS)
  • You will join the team in creating requirements documents for future space pro-jects.

Your profile

Essential experience, skills and characteristics: 

  • You have completed an apprenticeship as an electronics technician with university of applied sciences diploma (FH/ETH) or have equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with Altium, Python and FPGA design and development.
  • Willingness and ability to solve technically demanding tasks and problems.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Languages: Fluent in English (written and spoken). 

Desirable criteria: 

  • Experience in the development of hardware for space applications and with the application of ECSS standards.
  • A knowledge of the German language.
