We are looking for researchers from a broad range of exciting science disciplines, such as Computational Science, Data Science, Big Data, High Performance Computing, Earth Observation, Theoretical and Computational Astrophysics, Planetary Science, Machine learning, Astrobiology, and Space Exploration, Cosmology.
The ICS will only consider applicants who are eligible for an SNSF Eccellenza Professorship. The eligibility criteria include (see here for details):
  • Having a proven record of at least two years' research activity at a Swiss higher education research centre, or being a Swiss national, or having a Swiss higher education degree.
  • Having a doctorate (PhD) or an equivalent qualification and at least three years of research experience after the doctorate / equivalent qualification.
  • Submitting the application up to eight years after the PhD defense, or after the date of the equivalent qualification to a doctorate.

What we offer
Successful applicants would acquire the status of Assistant Professor and will be integrated in the Faculty of Science of the University of Zurich. We offer a diverse, open-minded, very international environment. ICS members are heavily involved in large national and international projects (e.g., PlanetS, Euclid, LISA, SKA) and several groups in applied mathematics, statistics, data science and computer-based visualization are co-affiliated with the institute.
The ICS is also a heavily collaborative environment and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to join projects with other ICS members and research groups across the Faculty of Science.
As a member of ICS, the applicant will have access to a world-class scientific computing infrastructure including the tier-0 facilities of the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre in Lugano. Furthermore, the applicant will be able to run large-scale machine learning experiments and high performance computing simulations on in-house CPU and GPU clusters.
