Empa is the research institute for materials science and technology of the ETH Domain and conducts cutting-edge research for the benefit of industry and the well-being of society.
In our Automotive Powertrain Technologies lab, we are investigating how the road mobility of the future can be designed more efficiently and with less climate and environmental impact. In close contact with science, industry and authorities, we investigate relevant issues and develop new technical solutions.
We are looking for a young
Scientist / PostDoc for vehicle operation investigations
with a focus on big data management/statistics
Your tasks:
  • Setting and using of a scientific monitoring system for the investigation of the operation of passenger cars in Switzerland
  • Evaluation of tracking systems as well as database and programming environments
  • Development of suitable methods for data transmission, anonymization and evaluation
  • Statistical analysis and interpretation of data
  • Publication of results in scientific journals as well as at international conferences and workshops
  • Supervision of students

We expect:
  • Completed study in the field of energy science or automotive applications, if possible with PhD in data science

  • Experience in the area of big data management (data acquisition, processing and archiving), complex statistical analyses and model development as well as an interest in acquiring or deepening knowledge in new areas

  • Technical knowledge of vehicle systems and practical knowledge and experience of vehicle data interfaces (OBD) are an advantage

  • Strong analytical skills and project management skills and ability to identify needs, develop effective solutions and manage projects

  • Interest in working in small, interdisciplinary project teams with research and industry partners

  • Good command of English and if possible of German
