Research Software Engineer in Natural Language Processing

The newly founded Media Technology Center is a place where researchers develop the media technologies of tomorrow in collaboration with industry partners. The center will also become a part of an international network of leading researchers in the field of media technology for knowledge exchange. To join our interdisciplinary team, we offer a position as a Research Software Engineer.

Job description

Together with experienced researchers (Postdocs), you will develop software prototypes (research prototypes) for new media technologies, specifically focusing on natural language and machine learning. Your first project will be to develop a Swiss Voice assistant (e.g., a "Swiss Alexa") which will understand and speak Swiss German sentences in dialects. Using state-of-the-art technologies in speech synthesis and speech recognition, you help us tackle the challenge of handling many dialects in Switzerland. You will be responsible for the implementation and testing of state-of-the-art research into software prototypes for the entire system using technologies from natural language processing and deep learning.

Your profile

You hold a master degree, or a diploma from a university of applied sciences in relevant fields (computer science, electrical engineering, etc.). You have experience in natural language processing, or deep learning (sequence models). Excellent programming skills are essential. Ideally, you bring experience with working on applied research projects at the intersection between academia and industry. You should be well versed in English. Speaking Swiss German is a plus.
