Research Assistant in Energy and Climate Economics

The Chair of Energy and Climate Economics invites applications for a position as Resarch Assistant, formally as a Scientific Assistant I.

Job description

You will support multiple research projects at the Chair. One core project will be to build new climate change impact functions which summarize how a changing climate affects different sectors and the macroeconomy. You will support this work through tasks including detailed and extensive literature review and synthesis, data collection, data management, and data analysis.

Other tasks may include (but are not limited to) the collection, processing and analysis of spatial and tabular data and/or assisting in coding of modeling for other research projects at the Chair.

Our broader research centers on questions such as  the macroeconomic effects of climatic risks, energy policy optimization, financial market responses to climatic and energy policy risks, and interactions of all of the above with technological innovation.

We offer

You will have the opportunity to participate in cutting edge research in climate and energy economics. We aim to help you expand your technical skills and build research experience. You will be able to learn new programs or programming languages (if relevant for a project), to master new databases, and challenge themselves in a supportive and positive environment.

Your profile
  • Have completed at least a Bachelors degree (or a Masters degree for applicants with citizenship outside the Eurozone)
  • A background in Economics, Finance, Data Science, or related fields is strongly preferred. Candidates with other relevant expertise (e.g., Climate Science) but an interest in economics are also welcomed
  • Have a strong background in quantitative methods and solid data skills, ideally with some coding experience (e.g., Stata, Matlab, Python, ArcGIS)
  • Be highly detail-oriented. Some of the work involved, such as synthesizing climate impact estimates, can be quite tedious as underlying studies are done using a wide range of methodologies and assumptions that can be difficult to harmonize. We believe that this work is extremely important, and we are looking for an individual that is as highly motivated as we are to take on this challenge and to do it carefully
  • Be a team player with a positive attitude
