The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading Life Sciences Institutes in the world. It accommodates 32 research groups and 500 employees investigating how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birthplace of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.

Your position
A Research Assistant position is available from June 2023 onwards in the group of Prof. Jean Pieters at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel. Our research aims to understand the mechanisms via which cells sense and maintain the size of multicellular populations at their appropriate density. In particular, we investigate the role of the coronin pathway to achieve proper cell population size control. We use a combination of innovative in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo approaches that cover the entire spectrum from molecules to organisms to unravel the mechanisms underlying cell population size regulation.

Your profile
The successful candidate will have a Master of Science or Ph.D. in Cell Biology/Biochemistry. You have experience in cell culture, molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology and ideally be familiar with techniques such as flow cytometry, microscopy, and basic protein analyses methods. The candidate should exhibit team spirit, be highly motivated and eager to learn and acquire new skills. Furthermore, the successful candidate should be organized and fluent in written and oral English.

We offer you
The position allows to employ a broad array of techniques to address highly innovative research questions.
