Interdisciplinary Engineering is a new Bachelor curriculum being developed at ETH Zurich, to foster cross-disciplinarity, critical thinking and creativity in engineering. Together with professors from a range of engineering departments, the program coordinator is expected to develop a modern, forward-looking curriculum on interdisciplinary engineering, with project-based education as a strong foundational component. The study program will build on broad fundamentals in the natural sciences and engineering and lead to interdisciplinary specializations in pre-defined directions. Specializations should combine competences that are not usually found in graduates of already existing BSc programs and venture into new forward-looking areas. Students in Interdisciplinary Engineering should be trained in design thinking, and should be able to tackle interdisciplinary engineering projects from the start of their studies. After successful introduction of the BSc program, a Master's degree program may need development as well. The position is available immediately with a start upon agreement.

Job description

You will be responsible for planning, budgeting, managing and coordinating the program between different departments at ETH Zürich, preparing the approval of regulations as well as communicating and successfully starting the study program. This includes curriculum development, producing documentation for student projects, managing tutors and mentoring students. You will be in charge of coordinating an internal working group in close collaboration with the responsible professor, the Director of Studies of the Department of Materials and the Rector’s office. You should also be able to design student projects that integrate competences and know-how acquired in the lectures, exercises and lab courses, as well as to teach and supervise some of these projects.

A higher graduate degree (PhD/Master) in any relevant field of engineering and/or practical experience with innovation processes and design thinking methods are clear advantages. Business level fluency in English is a prerequisite, sound German language skills would be required. Working experience at ETH Zurich and a profound understanding of ETH’s organizational mindset are welcome assets.
