Professorship in Applied Ethics
The University of Zurich invites applications for a professorship in applied ethics. The position should be filled by 1 August 2024.
The future holder of the position must have an excellent track record of research with an international impact in the field of moral philosophy and applied ethics. The successful candidate is also expected to have broad teaching experience in moral philosophy and applied ethics. A research focus in one or several areas of applied ethics, such as ethics of digitalization, neuroethics, military ethics, bioethics or medical ethics, is part of the job profile. Professional skills in history of philosophy or non-Western philosophy would also be desirable. Teaching should broadly cover moral theories as well as topics in applied ethics. In addition to providing innovative research impulses for applied ethics, candidates are expected to promote cooperation in research and teaching with other professorships at the Department of Philosophy, the UZH Center for Ethics, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and UZH's other faculties as well as with national and international institutions.
Candidates must hold a PhD in philosophy at the time of application and are required to have excellent scientific publications suited to the advanced professorial level. Depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate, the professorship will take the form of a full or associate professorship. Most lectures at the University of Zurich are held in English. The administrative language is German, which is why non-German speaking candidates are expected to acquire a working knowledge of German within the first three years of their appointment.
