Professor in Biomedical Optics (open-rank)

The Medical Faculty of the University of Basel invites applications for the Openrank position of Professor in Biomedical Optics.
The University of Basel is seeking a highly motivated and qualified scientist to join the Department of Biomedical Engineering (DBE) as Professor in Biomedical Optics. The successful candidate has a background in biomedical optics, photonic sensors and laser to lead research efforts in the field of modular endoscopic laser for bone ablation. This opportunity is initially embedded in the Department’s Flagship project (MIRACLE) on minimally invasive, robot-assisted, computer-guided laser osteotomy with a specific focus on the application of biomedical optics.
Your position
The successful candidate is expected to take initiative and responsibility in the MIRACLE project and to develop the field with an emphasis on translation and technology integration in clinical application. Close collaboration with clinical partners in the realisation of translational research projects is required. The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities within the established Master’s and Ph.D. programs in Biomedical Engineering.
Your profile
The successful candidate has several years of experience in biomedical optics, photonic sensors and laser. Additional experience in optical coherence tomography (OCT) is highly welcome. Excellent scientific qualifications, including a competitive publication and funding track record as well as proven ability and flair for teaching and educating are also expected. The successful candidate is able to work as a team player in an interdisciplinary environment . Excellent English communication skills are required for this position.
