Our Structural Engineering Research Laboratory is offering the position of a

Postdoctoral researcher or scientist dedicated to the development of basalt fiber reinforcement for load-bearing structures

in the framework of an industry project co-financed by Innosuisse. 

Your tasks 

• Development of basalt fiber reinforcement rebars for concrete reinforcement in close collaboration with the industry partners 
• Development of analytical and numerical models of the new reinforcements and their interaction with concrete 
• Planning of appropriate experiments for the mechanical characterization of the new reinforcements 
• Conducting experiments with innovative measuring systems like digital image correlation (DIC) and optical fibers and evaluation of the results 
• Autonomous implementation and execution of the research including communication with laboratory technicians, supervisors and industrial partners 
• Project documentation (internal) and dissemination by means of scientific publications (external) 
• Supervision of students in the context of bachelor and master theses in the field addressed by the project 
• Acquisition of additional and follow-up project funding 
• In addition to the research duties, the candidate is expected to conduct typical service work projects (for different industrial clients) in the field of structural engineering

Your profile 

• PhD in civil engineering from ETH Zurich, EPFL or similar institutes worldwide 
• Strong modeling skills (analytical and numerical) 
• Strong experimental skills, i.e. ability to develop optimal experimental set-ups as well as to organize and successfully perform experiments in the laboratory 
• Knowledge on fiber reinforced polymers applied in construction 
• Scientific excellence has to be proven by relevant publications and successful acquisition of project funding and management of research projects 
• Candidates shall have excellent written and spoken language skills in English and preferably in German 
• Team worker, able to diurnally collaborate with lab personal as well as with industry partners
