The Bioanalytics Group (Prof. Petra S. Dittrich) develops microfluidic methods for applications in the life sciences. We advance methods for basic research as well as for diagnostics and high throughput screening. In our interdisciplinary approach, we combine chemical, physical, biological and engineering aspects of microfluidic technology. The Bioanalytics Group is affiliated to the Department Biosystems Science and Engineering, and our laboratories are located in Basel (Switzerland).


Project background

The position is part of a third-party funded project that addresses a topic in the area of personalized health. The goal is the development of a microfluidic platform for cancer diagnosis and monitoring of the therapeutic progress. In a collaboration with biomedical researchers and clinicians, a platform for capturing cancer cells from whole blood will be designed, fabricated and applied for cancer cell analysis.


Job description

We offer you an intellectually challenging position in the inspiring atmosphere of an interdisciplinary team, where your tasks include:

  • Design, fabrication, performance tests and use of microfluidic devices for cancer cell analysis
  • Establishing collaborations with clinicians
  • Supervision of students
  • Contribution to teaching

Your profile

You have completed your PhD in the field of microfluidics, excellent academic qualifications and a strong interest and motivation for method development. Expertise in microfabrication is mandatory, experiences in fluorescence microscopy and single-cell analysis are appreciated.
