Postdoctoral Researcher in the field of Nanomagnetic Devices

The researcher will work in Mesoscopic Systems, a joint Laboratory between the Department of Materials, ETH Zurich, and Paul Scherrer Institute. Project background

The Laboratory for Mesoscopic Systems based at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is a joint laboratory between the ETH Zurich and the Paul Scherrer Institute, which is the largest research center for the natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland. The current research focus is the investigation of novel magnetic systems at the mesoscopic scale making use of the clean rooms and large-scale facilities at the Paul Scherrer Institute, and fostering the synergies with the Department of Materials (ETH Zurich). We would like to hire a Postdoctoral Researcher in the field of nanomagnetic devices.


Job description

You will be responsible for developing novel magnetic devices for applications in one of the following fields:

  • nanoscale robotics or
  • spintronics

The characterization will be carried out using lab-based characterization methods (optical and scanning electron microscopy, nanoMOKE, wide-field Kerr microscopy, transport, SQUID-VSM) as well as synchrotron x-ray techniques at the Swiss Light Source and internationally.


Your profile

You have outstanding qualifications with a Ph.D. in physics, electrical engineering, materials science, or a related subject, and a background in magnetic thin films, nanostructures, and devices. You should be motivated, proactive and creative to be successful, and should have good team and communication skills.
