The Department for Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies (Section Social Anthropology) at the University of Zürich consists of four chairs covering a broad spectrum of research areas, has a regional focus on Asia, and places strong emphasis on practice-oriented education with a solid empirical base. We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher / lecturer whose expertise fits the thematic and regional specialization of the Chair of Prof. Dr. Annuska Derks on Social Transformation Processes and Southeast Asia.
Your responsibilities
As a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer (”Oberassistenz” in the Swiss system) you work on your post-doctoral research project. At least 40 % of your working time will be reserved for your own research. Other tasks include teaching (3 courses per year), supervision of BA and MA students and other fields of activity, such as:
• Participation in the Social Anthropology Colloquium Series
• Coordination of literature acquisition in the relevant area of specialization
• Supporting the chair in academic and administrative tasks
• Participation in departmental / university committees and commissions

Your profile
Applicants should hold a PhD in anthropology or a related discipline. You should bring a strong academic record, as well as experience in teaching and in ethnographic fieldwork. We are looking for someone with a theoretical and empirical interest in (one of the fields of) social transformation processes, development, migration, gender and relatedness, preferably with a regional focus on Southeast Asia.
Applicants who do not speak German are expected to show their willingness to learn German within two years.
What we offer
Employment is 75% following cantonal guidelines. Accordingly, you will teach three classes per year (3 SWS per semester). For a start, the employment is limited to three years and may be extended up to six years on the basis of a positive evaluation.
