100%, Zurich, fixed-term

The Laboratory for Multiphase Thermofluidics and Surface Nanoengineering (MTSN) is in the Institute of Energy and Process Engineering (IEPE) and the department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT) and is looking for a postdoctoral research scientist in the areas of surface science and engineering, interfacial phenomena, and healthcare applications.

Project background

Proven experience in surface science and surface engineering -- especially cleanroom methods -- as mentioned above is an absolute requirement and should be mentioned in the cover letter of the application. The work will be mainly experimental, however, a good theoretical understanding of interfacial and micro-nanoscale transport phenomena and related modeling will also be needed.

Job description

You will be primarily involved the development of novel surface designs and materials with direct applications including: implantable medical devices. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with a medtech startup from ETH Zurich.

Starting date: The proposed starting date is flexible but is envisioned to be February 1st, 2022.

Duration of appointment: The desired minimum duration of the current appointment is two years. Extension is possible upon mutual agreement.

Your profile

You should have earned a PhD degree from an internationally recognized institution, typically in one of the following areas: mechanical/chemical engineering, physics, or materials science focusing on nanoengineered surfaces and interfacial phenomena.

Candidates with extensive knowledge of thermodynamics, interfacial phenomena, surface science, micro/nanoscale fabrication, and materials/device characterization methods are highly recommended to apply. Additional experience in other clean room methods is a plus. You should have an excellent knowledge of the English language and excellent communication skills.
