Your mission :

The Concrete Behaviour and Structural Design Laboratory (CONSTRUCT) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the area of structural optimization and sustainable design.

CONSTRUCT is a new lab at EPFL led by Prof. David Ruggiero. We focus on developing the sustainable use of structural concrete via:


  • improved mechanical modelling of new and existing concrete structures,
  • investigation of lower-carbon alternatives to traditional concrete, and
  • design for adaptive reuse and longevity.

Main duties and responsibilities include :
  • Performing original research in the area of sustainable reinforced concrete structures
  • Preparing publications for academic journals and presenting at international conferences
  • Contributing to research group activities including co-supervision of MSc students and teaching

Your profile :
  • PhD in structural engineering or a closely-related discipline (completed or near completion)
  • Strong numerical modelling and programming skills
  • Interest in interdisciplinary topics such as life-cycle assessment and adaptive reuse
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Record of academic publication and presentation
  • Practical structural design experience preferable
