The laboratory of Single-Molecule and Single-Cell Biophysics (BMC) is a research group in the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (D-ITET) at ETH Zürich led by Prof. Morteza Aramesh. We work in close collaboration with the Laboratory of Biosensors and Bioelectronics (LBB) led by Prof. Janos Vörös.
The BMC group focuses on developing technologies that enable single-molecule and single-cell studies, merging engineering and biophysics to address important biological questions at single-cell level and with a much higher temporal and spatial sensitivity compared to the existing methods. We explore cellular processes like protein secretion and how immune cells combat diseases through their protein repertoire. Our research aims to create devices for monitoring cellular processes, with a particular interest in fluidic devices for sorting and characterizing proteins in low quantities and volumes, secreted from single cells.
Collaborating with immunologists and proteomics experts, we apply our knowledge to emerging applications, including cell-based therapies to fight cancer and infectious diseases. Additionally, we collaborate with colleagues in our department to implement machine learning to improve data analysis and protein characterization, and with the Functional Genomics Center Zurich for advanced proteomics studies.
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in an ERC-funded project focused on developing fluidic devices for protein sorting and ionization. The position is originally for 2 years with possibility for extention. The position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
