Postdoctoral Fellow
100 %

The gene and cell therapy laboratory is part of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine (IREM) at the University of Zurich. The mission of the IREM is the translation of molecular life sciences into next generation of regenerative therapies for human disorders.
The gene and cell therapy laboratory develops viral and non-viral gene therapies with the ultimate goal of clinical development of novel efficacious and safe therapeutics for severe and often fatal diseases.
Our research is based on interdisciplinary, innovative and dynamic collaborations between scientists and clinicians. You will profit from a systematic hands-on training, in addition to personal development possibilities and our pronounced vocational training culture. The salary is in the range recommended by the Swiss National Science Foundation. As a postdoctoral researcher you will contribute to supervision of PhD students, and be actively involved in decision making regarding the follow-up projects as well as in application for additional third-party funding.
Within the project, your objectives are:
(1) to generate proof-of-principle data concerning novel lentiviral-self-inactivated gene therapy vectors for the treatment of cancer (first 6 months), and if successful in vitro to
(2) continue the development with in vivo data for later clinical application.
The project is linked to the HMZ flagship Immuno-TargET and can be started immediately or by agreement.
Your responsibilities
  • Design, test and eventually improve novel lentiviral gene therapy vectors in primary derived cells, cell lines, and mouse models
  • Establishment of tumor/immune cell coculture models
  • Supervision of PhD students
  • Active interaction within IREM and the Immuno-TargET consortium

Your profile
  • You hold a doctoral degree (PhD, or MD/PhD) and a University diploma in immunology, molecular biology, biomedicine, pharmacology, or other relevant fields with excellent qualifications; post-doctoral experience in the field of oncology/cancer is of advantage
  • Track record of active research preferably in cancer research or in gene therapy, stem cell biology, as evidenced by high quality publications
  • Experience with lentiviral vectors, transgenic mouse models, stem cell biology, and standard techniques of molecular biology and/or cell biology
  • You are an enthusiastic and creative scientist interested to work in a collaborative environment within a consortium of experts ranging from pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology to clinical applications
  • You are highly motivated by the successful translation of molecular life sciences into clinical trials testing novel therapeutics

What we offer
We offer an interesting project with a strong emphasis on translational research that will involve application of diverse research methods. You will work in an inspiring and socially relevant environment. Diversity and inclusion are important to us.
