Offer Description
The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2200 people.
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the newly formed group “Atmosphere-Biosphere-Interactions” in the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry (LAC). The focus of this Postdoctoral Fellow project is a tree harvest that took place in 2022 at the Swedish boreal forest research station Norunda. This harvest provided a unique opportunity to directly observe how volatile organic compounds emitted by the forest change due to harvesting, and how these changes modify formation, properties, and mass loadings of biogenic organic aerosols. The Postdoctoral Fellow project work focuses on mass spectrometer data analysis, interpretation, and modelling of climate impact of forest management practices. This project is in close collaboration with Stockholm University (Dr Radovan Krejci) and Gothenburg University (Dr Cheng Wu). Extended research stays at these institutions are possible.
