Postdoc/Senior Scientist in Micrometeorology/Ecosystem Fluxes

The Grassland Sciences group is a vibrant and international working group at the Department of Environmental Systems Science at ETH Zurich. We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic, and highly motivated postdoc/senior scientist with a passion for science to join our team. Our research focuses on the process- and system-understanding of the biosphere-atmosphere greenhouse gas exchange and its drivers in forests and agroecosystems, in response to management and climate.


Job description

Your main tasks will include research on biosphere-atmosphere greenhouse gas exchange (CO2, CH4, N2O) using eddy-covariance within the Swiss FluxNet , a network of six eddy-covariance sites over grasslands, forests, and cropland. Development of an own research programme must be strongly grounded on the process- and system understanding and relate to the group's overall research strategy in this area. You will actively present results at conferences and publish them in international journals. You will assist in teaching at Bachelor's and Master's levels (in German or English) and co-supervise doctoral students.

The position is currently envisaged for three to six years, depending on your professional experience. Salary and social benefits are provided according to ETH Zurich rules.

Your profile

You must hold a PhD degree with a strong proven research background in micrometeorology and ecosystem greenhouse gas exchange. Relevant research experience with field measurements using eddy-covariance towers is mandatory. Familiarity with flux data processing/post-processing, programming, and data sciences is required. Experiences in teaching, student supervision as well as project management are a big advantage. You should be able to expand the group's research strategy with their research ideas, assisted by technical staff. For existing infrastructure , please visit our web page.
