Your mission :

We are seeking to hire a Postdoc with a background in science or engineering and research experience in environmental quality (thermal, air quality, light, and/or noise) and building energy performance to the tasks related to sketching a future for a habitat that enables greater well-being for all, individuals and collectivities, with a smaller environmental footprint. 


Main duties and responsibilities include :

The postdoc is expected to primarily perform a parametric study on neighborhoods to optimize environmental quality at both neighborhood and building levels. In the extended phase of the project, potentially, design and conduct POE studies in selected case study buildings. This project takes place within a Swiss-wide collaborative project entitled “

SWICE-Sustainable well-being for the Individual and Collectivity in the Energy Transition

Your profile :

The requirements for the candidate’s profile are:

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Building Engineering, Physics or related disciplines (e.g. Architecture or Urban Planning with a focus on building performance)
  • Knowledge of requirements toward human comfort in terms of thermal, air quality, light, and/or noise.
  • Familiar with parametric design tools (e.g., Grasshopper, etc.)
  • Experience with urban scale energy simulation tools (e.g., CitySim, ENVI-met, OpenFoam, etc.)
  • Professional fluency in English, knowledge of French or German is a plus
  • Knowledge in post occupancy evaluation of buildings is a plus
  • Team spirit and interest in interdisciplinary work

Excellence and relevant experience will be the primary point of consideration. A successful candidate will be involved in the interdisciplinary research collaboration between

the Laboratory of Integrated Comfort Engineering

(

ICE

),

the Human-oriented Built Environment Laboratory

(

HOBEL

), and

the Laboratory of Integrated Performance in Design

(

LIPID

) at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). All three labs are part of the

School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering

(ENAC). The formal employment will be with

and will be based in Fribourg / Freiburg, Switzerland.
