The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is part of the ETH Domain. Approximately 600 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards.

The Research Unit Biodiversity and Conservation Biology studies the diversity of life in its various forms, from genetic diversity to the diversity of species and ecosystems as well as their interactions. PostDoc in community & network ecology 80-100% (f/m/d)

This PostDoc position is part of an ERC project (Developing the predictive ecology of plant-animal interactions across space and time), which aims to evaluate how and why interactions vary across elevation gradients and different regions (Andes, Atlantic Forest and Central America). You would analyse existing plant-hummingbird interaction data, hummingbird and plant trait data and abundance data collected across ~40 sites spread across the countries and elevations for one to eight years. Project collaborators come from a variety of countries and instutitions and the you would benefit from multiple different perspectives. You would also participate and help organize workshops to develop new ideas for use of the data. The place of work would be the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL in Birmensdorf.

You hold a PhD degree with a solid expert knowledge in ecology and biodiversity and ideally network-ecology, or in a related field. Proven experience in statistical modelling and scripting languages (e.g. Python, R) is indispensable. Experience with large datasets Baysean statistics, as well as cluster computing is an asset. The capability to develop new ideas independently is necessary, as are very good English skills (both written and oral). You are a curious, self-reliant person who is also an excellent team worker and values cooperation.
