The Center of Dental Medicine of the University of Zurich is one of the four Dental University Centers of Switzerland. It has approximately 390 employees and comprises six clinical Departments, a central administration Department as well as the Institute of Oral Biology. The Center of Dental Medicine is located in the middle of Zurich.
The Orofacial Development and Regeneration Unit of the Institute of Oral Biology (research team of Professor Thimios Mitsiadis) investigates the role of stem cells in the formation and regeneration of teeth and other orofacial tissues using human cells and a variety of transgenic mouse models. To this end a combination of histology, stem cell biology, in vivo genetic analyses, in vitro experimental techniques and modern imaging technology is being used. The Unit has access to state-of-the-art core facilities of functional genomics, proteomics, and imaging within the University of Zurich.
Your responsibilities
The successful candidate will develop research projects linked to orofacial tissues using molecular biology, experimental embryology, stem cell biology and "organ-on-a-chip"/organoids technology. Of particular interest is research relating to the functional analysis of genes expressed during tooth development and repair. Responsibilities will include leading a grant-funded research program that promotes collaboration with other leading members of the Departments of ZZM, the University of Zurich and other national and international Universities; teaching activities; performing several administrative duties and other miscellaneous tasks.
Your profile
  • the applicant has to hold a PhD degree
  • the applicant has to have a minimum of two-years experience beyond PhD training in areas such as molecular biology, embryology and/or developmental biology, stem cell biology
  • the applicant is expected to have teaching skills and to be able to instruct at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including graduate course teaching in oral biology
  • the applicant is expected to demonstrate leadership and collegial interactions
  • the applicant is expected to establish research enabling collaborations with the different Departments of ZZM

What we offer
This is a three-years position with the possibility of extension to three years. Salary is based on Cantonal regulations and commensurate upon qualifications and experience.
