The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Basel and the University Hospital Basel are looking to fill the position of Professor of Microbiological Diagnostics.
 
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Basel and the University Hospital Basel invite applications for a professorship in "Microbiological Diagnostics" with 40% for research and teaching and 60% for clinical service. The professorship can be centered in one or more subfields of microbiology (bacteriology, virology, mycology or parasitology).


Your position
You are responsible for microbiological diagnostics from a medical, economic and organizational point of view at the University Hospital Basel. With your microbiological expertise and your research background, you will strengthen the national and international visibility of infectiology at the University of Basel. With your expertise and your interest in the further development of diagnostic procedures in the entire field of laboratory medicine, you a) ensure optimal patient care, b) promote the training and further education of professionals in your area of activity in accordance with the specifications of the Federation of Medical Laboratories of Switzerland (FAMH), and c) contribute to the international reputation of the University through high-ranking publications in specialist journals. You represent infectious disease diagnostics in research and teaching. With your commitment to academic research and teaching, you inspire students for your field and promote the next generation of academics. Your participative, goal-oriented understanding of leadership ensures an attractive working environment for academic and clinical specialists. An interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration both within Laboratory Medicine and with the clinics of the University Hospital, in particular the Clinic for Infectious Diseases & Hospital Epidemiology, as well as the extended circle of colleagues at the University is required. You will lead a microbiological research group and create a fruitful environment for a successful research team.


Your profile
You have an FAMH diploma in medical microbiology or equivalent training, as well as sound experience and very good knowledge of the entire field of microbiology. A habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements are required. You have a successful track record in research, including acquisition of competitive third-party funding, in an associated research area and have good knowledge and experience in the business administration of a laboratory as well as proven management experience in an academic environment. Thanks to your distinctive expertise, your leadership and communication skills, and your high level of social skills, you have gained recognition and trust. You create an attractive working environment, inspire creative thinking and action and encourage and support your employees. You have proven experience in interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration and have strong networking skills. You have the ability to further develop the field of microbiology in service, teaching and research and to promote and implement innovations. You have a good knowledge of German or are willing to learn it within a reasonable period of time, as well as a good knowledge of English.
