Lecturer in Chemical Engineering

We seek to appoint a lecturer on reaction engineering and catalysis to teach undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The primary responsibility will be to contribute to the preparation and delivery of the Heterogeneous Reaction Engineering course, which is a core course in the Chemical Engineering Bachelor and an elective in the Master in Process Engineering. In this course, students learn fundamental principles of heterogeneous reactions and develop the necessary skills for the selection and design of various types of reactors. The content includes models for fluid-fluid and fluid-solid reactions; kinetics of surface reactions; mass and heat transfer phenomena and their impact on catalyst effectiveness; catalyst deactivation; reactor designs and testing methods. The course develops in English through regular lectures and exercises on each core topic during the spring semester.


Job description

In this role, your main tasks will be:

  • Lecture preparation and delivery (up to 3 hours of contact time with students per week).
  • Continuous improvement of the didactic quality of the course script.
  • Development and correction of assignments during the semester.
  • Coordination of teaching assistants.
  • Preparation and evaluation of session examinations.
  • Assistance with the development and execution of other catalysis courses in the group.

Delivery of teaching is expected to be face-to-face. This position is linked to a part-time contract with a duration of 2 years that can be extended. You will be working under the direction of Prof. Pérez-Ramírez, Full Professor of Catalysis Engineering at ETH Zurich, and in collaboration with other colleagues within the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences and across other departments.


Your profile

You have a Ph.D. in an engineering field with a strong interest in teaching and excellent command of English. A proactive, team-oriented mindset, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate through different backgrounds and cultures are also core requirements. You have experience teaching at the undergraduate/postgraduate levels and are ideally familiar with course administration at ETH Zurich. Research experience is also valued.
