The Institute of Veterinary Pharmacology and -toxicology is set in a preclinical research field, focusing on how early-life adversities, such as prenatal infection or nutritional imbalances, shape the risk for neurodevelopmental disorders. One of our main research aims focuses on the long-term effects of prenatal infection on brain development. Hence, we investigate alterations in the transcriptome, epigenome, and immunological parameters of the brain across our model systems (cell cultures, in-vivo mouse models).
Your responsibilities
As a project-associated technician in the Institute of Veterinary Pharmacology and -toxicology you perform standard techniques in our research field, such as DNA and RNA Extraction, PCR, qPCR and ELISA. Moreover, immune-histological analyses (cutting of fixed tissue, mainly mouse brain tissue, immunohistochemical staining and microscopy analyses (widefield and confocal and analyses via ImageJ) and epigenetic analyses (miRNA extraction, DNA methylation) will be performed.
Your profile
The position requires a training as a laboratory technician or master of science (in biology, neurobiology or similar expertise) and experience with the abovementioned techniques, mainly DNA, RNA and protein extraction, PCR, qPCR and ELISA. Knowledge in epigenetic analyses, immunohistochemistry and microscopy are a plus. We expect a reliable, independent and precise way of working. As we are an international team based in Switzerland, very good English and German skills are necessary.

Wagistrasse 12, 8952 Schlieren. Our laboratory is based in the BioTech area in Schlieren, surrounded by a variety of other institutes of the University of Zurich, as well as BioTech companies, thereby creating a multi-disciplinary environment.
Start of employment
