The Department of Quantitative Biomedicine combines biomedical research, with biotechnology, and computational biology to develop the foundations of next generation precision medicine. Within this environment, we are a research group aiming to understand the pathogenic mechanisms leading to two major neurodegenerative diseases: amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Your responsibilities
We are looking for a technician to support our work with human stem cells (iPSCs, NSCs) culture for modeling of human neurodegenerative diseases. The work will include maintenance, expansion, and banking of existing and new iPSC and NSC lines. Additionally, the tasks include the differentiation of stem cells into neural cultures and networks, their maintenance and preparation for experiments. Ultimately, the candidate will learn to independently generate and characterize novel disease and control stem cell lines.
The successful candidate will have experience with mammalian cell culture, including human cell lines as well as neurons (rodent primary). Experience with human iPSCs and / or neurons is not required but advantageous.
Additionally, experience with the following techniques would be an asset (but not required):
  • Long term (months) cell culture
  • Immunofluorescent staining (IF) of fixed cells
  • Basic handling of light microscopes
  • Basic cell and developmental biology knowledge

Your profile
Research technician diploma or Bachelor's/Master's in Biology/ Life sciences/ Biotechnologies/ Biochemistry. We are looking for someone with excellent organizational skills, the ability to work independently and with a friendly, helpful and open personality.
Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
General knowledge of the office package and google docs is required.
