D-BSSE has 350 international staff and scientists of many disciplines. We focus on research in complex biological systems. The Department is part of the ETH, a world leading university for research in science and technology. 


Job description

We offer an exciting opportunity to work in our mixed platform and customer focused environment. You will be part of our Service Desk team, involved in "hands-on" work as followed:

  • 1st and 2nd line service-desk support for clients, including: Mac/Windows laptops, PCs, networking, wireless, software installations, OS configuration and debgugging, hardware fixes & upgrades.
  • User account management, user induction/training. Ticket support.
  • Covering service-desk hours in conjunction with the team.
  • Multimedia (Audio Visual) conference systems support for lectures and seminars.
  • Printer support.
  • Inventory & computer life-cycle control.

Your profile

Your experiences, skills and interests include a good selection of the following:

  • Use of infrastructure support systems related to service-desk support. (E.g. Active Directory, Jamf, Profile Management, Baramundi, Vmware)
  • Experience in the support for IT projects related to the improvement of local IT support/services
  • Experience of the Mac or Windows platforms (skills in both are an advantage)
  • Familiarity with computer hardware
  • Willingness to learn and grow into new technical skills 

Your characteristics as a person are perhaps more important. To succeed in the role, you need: 

  • to have a real interest in being customer focused and resolving their problems
  • to be a genuine team player who enjoys their work, who can communicate effectively in our small team, able to work independently
  • to have a willing, reliable and flexible attitude to participate in all service-desk tasks, from the complex to the simple routine ones
  • Skills in German and English are required 

This role is being offered on a 50% FTE basis, with some ability to adjust this depending on circumstances. Some flexibility in the work scheduling is an advantage.
