The Entomological Collection of ETH Zurich is one of the most important natural history collections in Switzerland with two million specimens collected over the past 200 years. A current priority is to provide enhanced online access to collection resources, through the modernization and digitization of key sub-​collections.

To complement our team, we are looking for an Entomologist as soon as possible, limited to 12 months.


Job description

You will be part of a team of 5 - 10 employees. Your main tasks will include the following:

  • Rearrangement of sub-collections according to scientific and conservation standards and preparation for their digitization
  • Safeguarding existing collections through control and conservation measures, incl. pest prevention and control of wet collections
  • Supporting the digital data-capturing procedures, incl. 2D- and 3D-scanning
  • Documentation of existing collections according to scientific standards
  • Preparation and restoration of specimens
  • Processing of loan requests 

Your profile

You have solid experience in the field of entomology and the various tasks related to the management of natural history collections.

  • Independent and goal-oriented way of working and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of zoological systematics and taxonomy (in-depth knowledge of Coleoptera would be a bonus)
  • Manual dexterity and skill in dealing with fragile, irreplaceable objects
  • Personal interest in natural sciences and natural history
  • Attention to detail
  • Creativity and pragmatic thinking in working out solutions
  • Distinct sense of responsibility, high commitment, and the ability for interdisciplinary teamwork.
