The National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) Evolving Language in collaboration with the Technology Platform Linguistic Research Infrastructure (LiRI), which involves nearly 40 different research groups from a large variety of disciplines across Switzerland, seeks to fill a permanent position as data aggregator at the University of Zurich.
Your responsibilities
Responsibilities include developing, expanding, and maintaining a suite of databases (including corpora) and ancillary tools and processing pipelines for handling complex data on animal and human communication, partly building on existing resources.
The successful candidate will join a data science task force at the NCCR's headquarters in Zurich in co-affiliation with the University of Zurich's Technology Platform LiRI (Linguistic Research Infrastructure) . The task force will work intensively with researchers across the entire network of the NCCR and so the members of the task force are expected to also spend time in the various labs of the network (conditions permitting). The task force will actively collaborate with data science platforms at the ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne (e.g. the Swiss Data Science Centre) as well as with partners in industry (e.g. the Google AI Natural Language Processing Group in Zurich).
Your profile
The ideal candidate will have a MSc or PhD in data science, computer science, computational science, etc with hands-on experience in information retrieval and databases. Excellent programming skills are expected and experience with linguistic data are a plus. The NCCR places great emphasis on teamwork and on multidisciplinary perspectives. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential.
