CYBATHLON  is a not-for-profit project that offers a platform to advance research in the field of assistive technology. Its goal is to promote dialogue with the public about the inclusion of people with disabilities in everyday life. “Main Driver” is a unique competition in which people with physical disabilities compete against each other to complete everyday tasks using state-of-the-art technical assistance systems. CYBATHLON is an international competition that invites teams worldwide to be part of our platform.

The CYBATHLON  team is looking for a Competition Manager. You will complement our Competition team in developing and managing the CYBATHLON disciplines and races. Furthermore, you will drive and coordinate the scientific analysis and publication of scientific papers among the CYBATHLON disciplines. The position is limited until December 2024 with an option to extend. The job can be started in January, February, March or April 2023.

Job description

In this role, you will be part of the competition development and organisation team of CYBATHLON. This includes the further development of the disciplines and tasks, organising the medical check of the pilots, technical checks of the devices, refereeing processes, appeals procedures, management and briefing of competition staff such as volunteers, preparation of the competition for events, and the elaboration of new competition formats. The Competition Manager acts as the Deputy of the Head of Competitions, is present at events onsite, and can take over the management and operation of the competition onsite, if required. You will work closely with our Competition Infrastructure, Broadcasting, Production, Communications, and Event Operations teams.

Furthermore, you will create a concept to scientifically analyse the CYBATHLON disciplines and conduct research based on literature, studies in collaboration with participating teams, and your results. This scientific analysis will create the basis for the further development of the races & rules book. You will publish papers in collaboration with co-authors and contribute to CYBATHLON and other symposia organisations and programmes.

Your profile

• You have a deep understanding of (sports-)competitions. Ideally, have already gained experience in events including competitions.
• With your background in the field of human movement science, rehabilitation, neurology, or similar, and/or in the field of engineering/robotics, you communicate easily with different stakeholders.
• You can work in large, international, interdisciplinary teams and you are able to lead teams of staff and volunteers.
• You are friendly, open-minded, proactive, trustful, and innovative.
• Very good German and English skills as well as an interest in social, scientific, and technical topics are required.
• You are dedicated to promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities. 
• You are aware that the job can bear a high workload and you are flexible regarding working hours, especially around the time of CYBATHLON events.
