The candidate will also help with the preparation of common material for the laboratory, with the training of students and with the general lab organization.
The aim of the Drug-Microbiome Interaction laboratory is to combine systems approaches with molecular microbiology and biochemistry to understand how antibiotics affect diverse bacterial species and strains from the gut microbiota, and how this impacts the composition of bacterial communities and the emergence of antibiotic resistance.
Main duties and responsibilities include :
- Provide help with microbiology (aerobic and anaerobic bacterial cultures, in safety level 1 and 2 environments, establishment and screening of bacterial libraries, ...) and molecular biology techniques used in routine (cloning, DNA and RNA purification, PCR, western blotting...)
- Provide help and train new lab members on specific techniques
- Provide help with preparation of common material for the lab (plates, solutions)
- Establish standard protocols for the laboratory and participate to the implementation or improvement of technical procedures in the laboratory
- Provide help with orders and general laboratory organization
Your profile :
- You have expertise in microbiology and molecular biology (experience with biosafety level-2 and with anaerobes is a plus)
- You are highly motivated
- You are flexible and can easily adapt your work to the needs of the lab
- You are organized and rigorous in your work
- You are motivated to acquire new skills
- You like working in a team
- You have skills to communicate easily with your colleagues (English written and spoken, French would be a plus)
We offer :
- You will be working in the Global Health Institute, part of the School of Life Sciences at EPFL, on a highly motivating topic
- You will be part of an enthusiastic, flexible, international and dynamic team.
