The Faculty of Psychology of the University of Basel is looking to fill the position of Associate Professorship for Statistics & Data Sciences from Fall 2023.

You are responsible for conducting excellent research in the fields of statistics, scientific methods, and data analysis and providing teaching (8 semester hours per week) in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. You also make a significant contribution to raising the profile of the new research focus Society & Choice through studies, publications, and acquiring third-party funding.
The interpretation and evaluation of data are key competencies for personal, economic, political, and social organizational and decision-making processes. Statistics and data sciences provide scientifically sound methods and processes to enable insights from data. Statistical analyses are also essential for empirical psychology and enable the aggregated description of behavior as well as the statistical testing and evaluation of theory-based research hypotheses. The increasing importance of data sciences is reflected in numerous initiatives at the University of Basel, with which you will establish a connection, leading to increased collaborations for the Faculty of Psychology. Possible research topics could include newer statistical methods, for example in the area of Bayesian statistics, the analysis of Big Data, large panel data sets, data mining, machine learning, deep learning or meta-analyses. You will take on responsibility for teaching methods and statistics courses in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs, and provide important conceptual stimuli in the area of postdoctoral training and statistics consulting.

We are looking for a person who can establish and further develop psychological research and teaching in the field of statistics and data sciences at the Basel campus. You should be experienced in psychological research, have a distinguished international publication record, and have experience in the competitive acquisition of third-party funding. The Professorship for Statistics & Data Sciences is intended to provide the Faculty of Psychology with development opportunities in research and teaching and to open up access to attractive research and job market opportunities for students and graduates. We expect a willingness to engage in teaching and active participation in academic self-governance together with cooperative collaboration within the Faculty of Psychology and the University of Basel.
