NEXUS Personalized Health Technologies is an ETH Technology Platform that was created to accelerate the execution of translational research projects by providing technological resources, tools and collaboration opportunities for the personalized health research community. For our innovative and international team in Zurich we are recruiting an assay development- and screening specialist to coordinate assay design and perform screening projects. The screening projects of NEXUS range from biochemical screens to combinatorial chemical synthesis to complex screening assays with patient-derived organoids. The position is to commence immediately or by mutual agreement.


Job description

In your position as assay development- and screening specialist, you are responsible for driving screening projects and completing these promptly. To efficiently coordinate projects, you will interact with scientists from various fields to find the best way of completing their projects to the highest quality. Your responsibilities include

  • designing and miniaturizing assays,
  • development of automation procedures for biochemical, cell-based- and advanced assays such as organoid models,
  • planning and execution of automated screening campaigns with chemical tools or biological libraries,
  • joint maintenance of our chemical- and biological libraries.

Your profile

You are passionate about clinical science and translational research and you have:

  • an MSc or PhD degree in biology/life science or a similar discipline, have an affinity and passion for technological innovation in life sciences,
  • a strong background in assay development and high-throughput screen design (ideally including microscopy) and have experience in working with lab automation equipment,
  • strong experience working with 3D cell culture models such as organoids in BSL-2 labs and CRISPR technology is essential. Additional experience in chemistry and microscopy is a strong advantage,

As a proactive team player with a high level of accuracy and reliability and a hands-on mentality, you can independently coordinate- and execute customer projects promptly. You can guide scientists from various disciplines in an efficient way to develop and automate their screening projects. Furthermore...

  • You can keep a good overview of your tasks while working on multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently schedule your work.
  • You are documenting experiments accurately and presenting the results during meetings. Experience with analysis of screening data or experience with R, KNIME or python is a strong advantage.
  • You are proficient in English and have excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills. Knowledge of German is an advantage.
