The Chair of the History and Theory of Architecture 1450–1850, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Maarten Delbeke, is part of the Institute for History and Theory of Architecture (gta) at ETH Zurich. We are interested in the histor(ies) of architecture and the built environment, their relationships to architectural practice, and how art and architecture are legitimized as cultural practices.


Job description

As administrative assistant you have the function of office manager:

  • You are responsible for supporting the chair administratively and helping keep us organized and running smoothly.
  • You will manage the financial components of our work, including approving staff and student assistant reimbursements and payments.
  • You will further manage general academic administration, including new course and instructor paperwork, annual academic reports, and study trip coordination.
  • You will support the professor, particularly with travel and reimbursements.
  • Additionally, you are responsible for overseeing the basic order of the office and the practical orientation of new academic staff.

Over time, the position could grow to include additional editorial and organizational duties for an interested and capable team member.


Your profile

We seek a person who is extremely organized, detail oriented, and motivated to learn new things and create new processes. Excellent German and English is required; the primary working language of our office is English. You should enjoy working with students and have some experience with office administration; experience working in an academic environment is a plus. Familiarity with architecture, design, or the arts beneficial but not required. We are open to recent university graduates with strong academic credentials as well as more experienced administrative staff.
