The Department of Economics belongs to the School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg and the department has around 100 employees from several countries. The teaching within the department is economics and statistics and the department has around 800 students registered at courses and programs. There is a diverse set of researchers at the department where several of them are internationally well known economists. The research conducted is within a broad range of areas, including labor, environmental, development, behavioral, and financial economics. The department aim to recruit 2-5 visiting lecturers for teaching during 2022.
Job assignments
The assignments as visiting lecturer mainly includes supervision at Bachelor-and Master level in Financial Economics. Teaching at introductory- and advanced level in Financial Economics and especially behavioral economics aspects in Financial Economics may also be included within the assignments. The latter includes seminars and lectures, exercise sessions and being mathematical support. The teaching and supervision are primarily done in English, but some teaching is done in Swedish at the introductory level.
We aim to recruit visiting lectures for teaching in following courses:
Undergraduate- Bachelor level;
- Bachelor thesis in Financial Economics
Advanced level/ Master level;
- Behavioural Finance
- Master thesis in Financial Economics
Administrative tasks are also included, such as grading of exams and scheduling of courses. In addition to the courses mentioned above there may be some other course that the department needs to staff with guest lecturers during the year.
Qualifications
The employment should strengthen the interaction between research and teaching and contribute to increased internationalization. The employment is therefore aimed at persons who are active researchers within the area of economics and especially within the area of Financial Economics. Own research relevant to the teaching and international experiences are important qualifications. A requirement for the employment as visiting lecturer is a PhD in Economics or equivalent. You should have previous experience of teaching in economics at Bachelor- and/or Master level, and show good pedagogical skills to be able to communicate with the department´s students in a pedagogical way. Teaching within any of the courses mentioned above and previous experience with supervision is highly meritorious. Good communication skills in speech and writing in English and possibly Swedish (depending on the course language) is a requirement.
Personal suitability is of great importance for the appointment. Ability to cooperate and to work independently as well as in teams are important qualifications.
An overall assessment of the applicant will be done based on the requirements described above.
Employment
The department aim to recruit 2-5 visiting lectures. The employment is a temporary employment on hours during the period 2022-01-01 – 2022-12-31 and the working hours may vary approximately between 50 hours and 350 hours. The work primarily refers to the first half of 2022, but some work may be done during the autumn of 2022 if a need arises.
The employment is located at the Department of Economics at the University of Gothenburg.
Other
The employment is a temporary employment (intermittent employment) which refers to working by hours up on agreement during the period 2022-01-01 – 2022-12-31. With an intermittent employment you will be called for certain assignments/ working hours and you choose to accept offered work, which constitutes a new employment relationship at each individual occasion. You also have the right to decline offered work.
