Are you interested in working with communication, outreach and events related to development research? We are looking to hire a student assistant to work with the secretariat of the Swedish Development Research Network (SweDev). SweDev was founded in 2019 and is a platform that connects development researchers across Sweden in order to strengthen collaboration within the research community, and to increase interaction between development researchers and practitioners.

From 2024, SweDev’s secretariat will be hosted at the Department of Government. The Department of Government belongs to the Faculty of Social Sciences at Uppsala University and has about 100 teachers, researchers, doctoral students, and administrative staff. Its activities consist mainly of teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels and in postgraduate education. Duties
Duties for a teaching assistant can include teaching, administration or participation in research or artistic research. The duties for this position will focus on assisting the SweDev secretariat through maintaining the website, communicating within and outside the network, co-organising and publicising events, monitoring relevant events and new research findings, and participating in regular meetings of SweDev’s executive committee.

Requirements
For employment as a teaching assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted as a student at undergraduate or advanced level. For this position, you will also need the following:

  • Specialisation in development studies (Bachelor degree or ongoing studies)
  • Good knowledge of development research and Swedish development cooperation
  • Proficiency in English (verbally and in writing)
  • Good communication skills and an interest in working with digital communication
  • Documented ability to work independently
  • Good cooperation skills.

Additional qualifications
Experience of managing social media and/or a website for an organization, or similar experience, is meriting. Earlier experience of working in the development sector, in Sweden or abroad, is also meriting. Enthusiasm and interest in development research and SweDev’s work will also be considered in the assessment of candidates.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 12. Scope of employment: 20% for 1 year, with possible extension. Starting date: 2 September 2024, or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
