Umeå University and SciLifeLab are seeking a Systems Developer to work within a newly established unit at SciLifeLab, Training Hub.

SciLifeLab, Science for Life Laboratory, is a national center for molecular biosciences in Sweden, developing and maintaining unique research infrastructure, services, and data resources for life science research. SciLifeLab’s primary goal is to enable groundbreaking, interdisciplinary research and promote the application of research for the benefit of society. Approximately 200 research groups, 1,500 researchers, and 40 national infrastructure units are connected to SciLifeLab, spanning all major Swedish universities.

The Training Hub is a new initiative from SciLifeLab responsible for providing training services, support, and resources in technology- and data-driven lifelong learning. Our mission is national, and the vision is to enable SciLifeLab to offer high-quality and openly accessible learning resources, such as courses, materials, and other forms of lifelong learning. The Training Hub collaborates closely with various national and international research infrastructures and organizations.

The Department of Plant Physiology is part of the Umeå Plant Science Centre, which hosts close to 200 employees and 40 principal investigators, representing about 48 nationalities (for more information please visit http://www.upsc.se or http://www.plantphys.umu.se/english/). The department carries out research and postgraduate education in different fields of plant science including, ecology, biochemistry, plant physiology and genomics.  

SciLifeLab Training Hub (TH) is responsible for supporting and providing assistance to SciLifeLab’s ecosystem regarding training. We work distributed across Sweden, and you will have colleagues throughout the country, with much of our work happening via Zoom, Slack, and online platforms. SciLifeLab Training Hub is hosted by Stockholm University, with its main office at SciLifeLab Solna.

As a System Developer at the Training Hub, you will work on building our national Training portal. This portal will gather training information and materials from the entire life science community and provide support systems for educators.

• Development of our registry system
• Design and development of our registration system
• Deployment, maintenance, and support of our systems
• Identify workflows and new systems best suited for specific needs
• Integrate existing and new systems

The position requires university or college education in systems science, computer science, bioinformatics, or a related subject relevant to the position or documented experience that can be deemed equivalent.

• Experience of development in Linux-based environments
• Proficient in Python
• Good knowledge of database modeling
• Excellent communication skills in English

• Knowledge of other programming languages, such as Ruby, PHP
• Experience with container-based systems, such as Docker
• Experience with version control systems, e.g., Git
• Interest in training and/or OPEN and FAIR principles
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues in different fields

The position is full-time and permanent. A probationary period up to 6 months may be applied. The position is available as soon as possible or as agreed upon.
