The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focus on increasing our knowledge of the aetiology of different diseases. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total some 250 staff. Join our highly qualified team of biostatisticians in the Applied Biostatistics group (ABS) of the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics! In our team, you will take responsibility for scientific collaborations as an applied statistician in high-profile epidemiological research projects, as well as contributing to strategic departmental tasks in biostatistics and bioinformatics. The position offers large opportunities for professional development. Our team is embedded in the larger MEB Biostatistics group with nearly 40 staff including 4 professors of biostatistics.

Your mission

As a member of the ABS, you will work in research projects in a wide range of medical applications. Your main tasks are:

  • Contributing statistical expertise to epidemiological research and clinical trials at MEB. This involves the responsibility of planning, design and analysis of studies, as well as interpretation and presentation of results in scientific articles in collaboration with researchers at the department.
  • Providing practical support and supervision in statistics and programming for researchers and PhD-students
  • Contributing and/or leading the development of research documentation procedures and/or collaborate with the IT department regarding statistical software and computational servers.
  • Teaching (lectures and/or computer labs), subject to requirements and interests.

This position is one year and can be adapted to your competence, experience and interests. There are also possibilities for pursuing your own research in biostatistics and epidemiology as part of your employment. We see participation in courses, seminars and conferences, both internal and external, as a natural part of your professional development.

Your profile

We expect you to have a degree in statistics, mathematical statistics or a related field. We also expect you to have experience from planning and analyzing clinical trials, epidemiological research and teaching. As working with people in other professions is a large part of this job, you need to be structured and self-reliant, and able to work on multiple projects in parallel. Excellent communication skills and good command of spoken and written English are important. We expect you to be motivated to expand your knowledge in biostatistics, epidemiology and medicine, as required. We further expect you to have an interest in the strategic development of our group and applied biostatistics.

We consider experience in the following areas to be additional qualifications for this position: collaborative research; statistical consulting; application of statistical programs Stata, SAS, and/or R; secure data management, research documentation and project organization.
