The Core Facilities resource centers give researchers access to advanced technical equipment and skilled expertise in a number of disciplines within the Sahlgrenska Academy, see www.cf.gu.se . The Bioinformatics and Data Centre (BDC) Facility provides a wide range of statistical and bioinformatics analysis as well as specialized courses to researchers from Gothenburg University and other external universities. The Facility harbors one of the Clinical Genomics platform nodes, part of SciLifeLab, which serves as a bridge between the University of Gothenburg and the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in order to enable an empower clinical research and development in the region, assisting researchers and clinical users with bioinformatic methods development and implementation into routine care. Duties 

As a statistician at the Bioinformatics and Data Centre, your main task will be to provide statistics support and consultation to our users, for both clinical and research purposes. You will work in several projects simultaneously, where each project time frame and analyses are set up in agreement with the user. You will be responsible for your day-to-day planning, data analysis and presentation of the project results, so we assume that you can work independently and within the set time frames. To be successful in the application, you need to be a quick learner, write your own code with ease and have an interest in big data and biology. Teaching may also be part of your work.


Qualifications 
  • You must have a PhD in Mathematical Statistics or equivalent education.
  • Experience in the analysis of genomic and epidemiological data as well as using machine learning techniques is required.
  • You must be experienced in R and any established scripting language.
  • Experience working in a research infrastructure (consultancy) is meritorious.
  • Experience in UNIX/Linux and use of computing clusters is desirable.
  • You should demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English as it is required in daily work.
  • You should be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience in teaching and developing teaching material is meritorious.
  • Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability, good communication and interpersonal skills.

Employment 

The employment is a substitute position for 21 months, from 15-05-2023 to 15-02-2025. The scope is 100% of full-time and is placed at Core Facilities, Bioinformatics and Data Centre, Sahlgrenska Academy. Starting date may be negotiated.
