Short-term Research Assistant Position available at UPSC

The Department of forest genetics and plant physiology is part of Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC, https://www.upsc.se ) which is a centre of excellence for experimental plant research and forest biotechnology in Northern Sweden. Our mission is to perform excellent and innovative basic research and generate knowledge that benefits forestry, agriculture, environment and society. We work across a wide range of disciplines in plant science reaching from cell biology to ecophysiology and from basic research to industrial applications. Our common goal is to understand the plants’ ability to grow, adapt and acclimate to a changing world and how we can breed better plants.

UPSC belongs to two universities, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Umeå University. About 200 people from more than 40 different nationalities work here. We host some 30 principal investigators, and our researchers have access to state-of-the-art analytical platforms, unique tree germplasm resources and plant growth facilities. We are now looking for short-term Research Assistant position avaible at UPSC/SLU. 


About the position

You will participate genomics projects of Norway spruce and Scots pine including: (1) DNA and RNA extraction and processing for genotyping using SNP array and re-sequencing, (2) participating field sampling of biological material for DNA and RNA extraction; (3) Preliminary data cleaning and analyses.


Your profile

Highly motivated and team-oriented candidates with experience in biology, molecular genetics, and tree genetics. To qualify, you should have a university degree in subjects relevant for the position. Good English communication and writing skills are required.

Form of employment:

Hourly paid temporary employment. This means that you will be offered work on occasional short-term occasions during the period 2024-03-11 to 2024-06-11. Employment opportunities are time assessed with the support of Section 5 of the Employment Protection Act. Being available in this way means that you can say yes or no to every job opportunity you can work on and that a new employment relationship then begins. A job opportunity can last a few hours to several weeks.

2024-03-11 or by agreement.
