We are searching for a PhD that for 15 months will examine how chemical compounds can affect different bacterial pathogens using biochemical, microbiological and molecular biology methods. Last day of applying is 2021-04-30.
The Department of Chemistry is the largest department within the Faculty of Science and Technology and has about 200 employees, of which about 40 are postdocs and with a strong and expanding research. Three major research areas, Biological Chemistry, Environmental and Biogeochemistry and Technical Chemistry bring together the department's research and education in chemistry. We are also a strong partner within KBC, Chemical-Biological Centre. You will work in a research environment that offers a strong focus and depth in biogeochemistry, but also a wide range of expertise and research infrastructure within the KBC environment.
The working tasks includes examining how and if different chemical molecules can affect survival, growth and/or infectivity of different bacterial pathogens (mainly Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecium) and identify the mechanism of action of the compounds.
You will use chemistry methods (e.g. gelshift, SPR, fluorescence quenching), bacteriological (e.g. bacterial growth, survival and infectivity using cell cultures) and molecular biology experiments (e.g. DNA and RNA-sequencing, cloning, transformation, western and northern blot) will be conducted.
You must have a doctoral degree in Molecular Biology. It is required that you have a documented experience working with chemical, bacteriological and molecular biology techniques to determine the function/activity of chemical molecules for the growth/survival and/or virulence in bacterial pathogens. You should have a documented experience writing in English.
