Umeå University offers a position at the Protein Expertise Platform (PEP) at the Department of Chemistry (https://www.umu.se/en/research/infrastructure/pep/ ). The PEP is a core facility that provides different services, such as cloning, expression of recombinant proteins and high quality protein purifications. The primary aim of the PEP is to serve academic research groups at Swedish universities, however, universities outside Sweden and companies will be considered as well. The PEP is part of the Protein Production Sweden (PPS), a national infrastructure that offers protein production in various expression systems, such as E. coli, baculovirus/insect cells, yeast cells, plant cells and mammalia cells. PPS is also concerned with solving challenging protein expression problems and the development of new protein production methods.

Tasks
The tasks within PEP will emphasize work on setting up and handling of plant cell suspension cultures, as well as various plant cell adopted cloning methods (T-DNA), plant cell transformation with Agrobacterium, protein production with focus on plant proteins. In addition practical laboratory work will also include protein production in E. coli, protein purification, documentation, and preparation of materials for sale. Communication and problem solving in consultation with users is an important part of daily work.

Qualifications
We are looking for you, who is highly motivated, has a PhD exam in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or equivalent. Previous work experience with cloning, protein production, and chromatography is a requirement.

The position requires the ability to work plan independently. It places high demands on accuracy, responsibility and service mindedness. As part of PEP, you also need to be able to work with several tasks in parallel and find laboratory work enjoyable and interesting.

As English is used in all documentation and, to a large extent, in communicating with our customers, good knowledge of English as well as excellent communication skills and teamwork is a requirement. Technical skills and personal qualities will be of great importance for the application.

Experience of sterile technology and work with plants, plant cell suspensions, yeast or mammalian cells is highly meritorious. Postdoctoral experience is also a merit. Publishing activity in the field is meritorious.

Condition
