The Department of Social Work is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Gothenburg. We have more than 120 staff and offer the Bachelor of Science Programme in Social Work as well as master’s programmes, family therapy education, other continued professional development and third-cycle courses and study programmes. Research in social work is conducted within the framework of a number of profile areas in an expansive and dynamic environment that is characterised by great civic engagement and extensive international contacts and collaborations, through various networks and with universities around the world.

We are now looking for one or several senior lecturers in social work who can strengthen the research and education environment.

Job assignments

The tasks include teaching, research and collaboration with the surrounding society and consist mainly of teaching, supervision and examination on the theories and methods of social work within the Bachelor of Science Programme in Social Work. The tasks also involve assignments on course and study programme development and participation in the department’s teaching development work. Teaching is mainly at first and second cycle, but there may be some at third cycle, as well as some contract education. There may also be requirements to teach on most of the department’s courses and study programmes.

The position further includes the administrative tasks associated with a teaching position and, in the long term, the ability to participate in and perform different management assignments. Active participation in the department’s research environments and seminar activities is also required. As externally funded research is an important prerequisite for the research activities of the department and individual teachers, the tasks include actively participating in the department’s work to find external funding.


Eligibility

The appropriate qualifications for the position of senior lecturer are specified in Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in appointment procedure for teachers at the university of Gothenburg (Local Application at the Faculty of Social Sciences) available at appointments procedure for teachers at the university of Gothenburg

A person is qualified for the position if they have been awarded a Degree of doctor in Social Work or a related subject and have demonstrated teaching expertise. Applicants must also have completed higher education teaching of 15 credits or equivalent, or have completed it within two years of the employment.


Assessment

When assessing the applicant, equal importance will be given to research and teaching expertise. Importance is also placed on administrative and other expertise of relevance to the subject matter and tasks of the position.

When assessing research expertise, publications of high academic quality will primarily be considered. Importance will also be given to documented ability to initiate, plan and conduct research and obtain funds for research in competition.

The teaching expertise must be well documented, which means that both scope and quality may be assessed. When assessing teaching expertise, special importance should be placed on experience of planning and carrying out teaching in social work. Supervision at first, second and third cycle is a useful qualification. The applicant must have a good ability to teach in Swedish as well as in English.

Experience of research and teaching within welfare policy is a requirement.  Experience of research and teaching in quantitativ methods is also a requierment.  Additional emphasis will be placed on experience in research and teaching with in human rights.

Particular importance will be given to the combined competence in the subject and professional social work, as well as to the ability of the appointed person to collaborate internally and externally, and to be involved in driving the development of the department’s educational, project and research activities.

A maximum of ten scientific writings and ten teaching materials may be cited. The writings that you cite must be received within the application period. Writings that are not available in electronic form must be submitted in two copies. At least two references must be provided in the application.

    a) A list of the courses and degree programmes that you have developed and taught, at first, second and third cycle.

    b) A description of your teaching and other qualifications with information on scope and quality.

    c) A description of your teaching material production (textbooks and other teaching materials).

    d) An educational self-reflection on your teaching philosophy and teaching practice (max 3 pages).

    e) Certificate of your higher education teaching if available.

    f) Certificate of your teaching experience from head of department/director of studies or equivalent at, at least one university/department.

  • Complete copies of a maximum of three works from any teaching material production.
  • An account of qualifications in management, administration and collaboration.
  • Other certificates and documents you wish to cite.
