Description of the subject area of the employment
The subject area is nuclear disarmament in a broad sense, including arms control and non-proliferation.
Duties
The position involves teaching, assessment, research and administration. Teaching includes responsibility for courses, course administration and supervision of students. The duties of the position also include actively seeking external research funding and keeping abreast of developments within your own subject area and developments in the wider community that are relevant for your teaching role at the University. Senior lecturers are expected to contribute to the research and teaching environment, periodically take on more extensive administrative responsibilities, and collaborate with the surrounding society for mutual exchange. A vital part of the role involves interacting with the surrounding society to ensure that the knowledge and expertise at the centre benefit society. The position also includes conducting research on nuclear disarmament in a broad sense within the framework of AMC. The research should fully or partially use the new data sets on disarmament agreements and negotiations developed by AMC. Additionally, the position involves contributing to the development of these data sets. The ambition is to allocate at least half of the working time to research at AMC.
Required qualifications
To qualify for appointment as a senior lecturer, you must have been awarded a PhD or have equivalent research competence, have demonstrated teaching expertise, be able to work with other people and otherwise meet the suitability requirements needed to perform your duties well.
Your teaching expertise, research expertise and professional skill must be relevant to the subject matter and the duties that the position involves. Since Uppsala University is a state agency with Swedish as the main language, administrative meetings and documents are often in Swedish and cannot always be translated. It is therefore desirable that an employee learns Swedish as soon as possible in order to fully contribute to the collegiate activities at Uppsala University.
Assessment criteria: research and teaching expertise
When selecting among qualified applicants, equal weight will be given to research and teaching expertise.
Applicants must have demonstrated research expertise by independent, high-quality research contributions. The applicant’s contributions to the international and national scholarly community will be assessed on the basis of the quality and scope of scholarly publications, among other criteria. The nature and specific circumstances of the subject will be taken into account when assessing the required international track record.
When assessing research expertise, research quality will be the principal consideration. The scope of the research, meaning primarily its depth and breadth, will also be taken into account. Furthermore, consideration will be given to the ability to plan, initiate, lead and develop research and third cycle (doctoral) education, the ability to obtain research funding in competition, and the ability to collaborate and engage with the wider community through research. In assessing research expertise, particular weight will be given to publications in highly ranked academic journals and with leading academic publishers, demonstrating experience in developing and analysing one or more social science datasets with a large number of observations.
Teaching expertise will be evaluated as carefully as research expertise. Teaching expertise must be well documented to make it possible to assess quality. When assessing teaching expertise, the quality of teaching will be the principal consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, will also be taken into account, as will the ability to plan, initiate, lead and develop education, and the ability to base teaching on research. Teaching expertise should also include the ability to collaborate and engage with the wider community through education.
