Appointment programme
Languages in Professions and Intercultural Communication is a unique division in Sweden in which a combination of communicative skills, intercultural expertise and technical knowledge within economy and technology are central to all teaching and research. The division commands expertise in several languages, including English, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, French and German. Our work environment is extremely multicultural, and we are now seeking a senior lecturer in Language for Specific Purpose, specialising in French.

Languages in Professions and Intercultural Communication currently possesses a broad educational mission within the framework of successful programmes within both the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Linköping University The educational mission of the post we now seek to fill includes teaching, supervision, examination, course development and pedagogic development for basic and advanced courses in French, specialising in economy and technology. Teaching principally takes place within the International Business and Economics Programme, and Commercial and Business Law. Other teaching is within the International Master’s in Industrial Engineering and Management, and within Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. In addition, several new courses are included, some of these using remote methods, and some within the framework of the international profile specialising in French.

We nurture a culture in the division that promotes the professional development of our co-workers, and innovative and student-focussed teaching methods of high quality. For this reason, the successful applicant will have ample scope within language for specific purpose to develop course designs and course contents that specialise in language for specific purpose, intercultural communication, and languages in professions. This is the case not only for campus-based teaching, but also for the development of courses to be given using remote methods or in a mixed format.

All teaching within the framework of this appointment will be held in French, and thus it is a requirement that applicants demonstrate documented expertise in teaching in French. A basic knowledge of Swedish is a particular merit for the post, since several components of the courses are given in Swedish. It is desirable that a successful applicant with another mother tongue than Swedish will be able to teach in Swedish within two years of taking up the employment.

It is a requirement for this appointment that the successful applicant has demonstrated research proficiency within one or several of the following fields: technology, business administration, commercial and business law, and economics. Documented research expertise within French as second language, French linguistics, and intercultural communication and/or business culture is a particular merit for the post.

Documented teaching expertise from teaching French as a second language, intercultural communication, technical subjects, economic subjects and/or French with a specialisation in linguistics or language for specific purpose is also a requirement for the post. Documented expertise in collaboration with colleagues within several of the fields listed above is of particular merit for the post. Documented expertise in teaching at several levels (first-cycle, second-cycle and third-cycle) and for different types of target group is a merit for the post. Furthermore, documented teaching expertise in distance education is a merit for the post. Documented teaching expertise within the supervision of students in their independent work, and of course development, are merits for the post.

As senior lecturer in language for specific purpose with a specialisation in French, you will be expected to take responsibility for courses and contribute actively to the development of teaching methods. The successful applicant will be expected to be head of French as a subject within the division, and thus administrative expertise and an ability to plan, organise and develop operations and personnel are merits for the post.

Within the division, we are continuously striving to establish new collaboration partners and networks. It is therefore expected that the successful applicant will contribute actively to the development of a new research environment and to attracting external research funding. A documented ability in such work is, therefore, a merit for the post.

Within the department, close collaboration with companies and other organisations within the research and educational programmes is given priority. Documented expertise in collaboration with other researchers, and in outreach operations and collaboration with the society around us is a merit for the post.

The successful applicant must be prepared to work in a creative, innovative, intercultural and dynamic environment, and to actively commit to the development of the division, with respect to both teaching, administration and research. This includes a commitment to contributing to a healthy workplace environment and strengthening collaboration between language specialisations within the division.

Qualifications
To be qualified for this appointment the applicant must have demonstrated teaching proficiency, received a Degree of Doctor or have the equivalent academic expertise or other professional skill which is of significance with consideration for the subject relevant to the appointment and the associated duties.

Here, the definition of “equivalent academic expertise” is a documented foreign degree which is deemed to be at least equivalent to a Degree of Doctor.

The definition of “other professional skill” is relevant professional skill gained outside of higher education. Other professional skill can only be considered as a ground for eligibility in the case of an appointment for which the successful candidate is to be active in professional education and training in which proven experience is essential.

Grounds for assessment
As grounds for assessment when appointing a senior lecturer, the level of proficiency required to qualify for the appointment shall apply.

As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching proficiency as to other conditions of eligibility.

For this position special weight is given to teaching proficiency.

Scholarly proficiency must have been demonstrated through: original research resulting in publication, through planning and managing research and third-cycle courses and study programmes and through the ability to obtain research grants Scholarly proficiency can also be demonstrated through the ability to achieve results in research through collaboration with other teachers and through the ability to provide information about research.

Teaching proficiency is demonstrated through the ability to convey relevant knowledge and skills, to stimulate students such that they drive their own learning process, to create engagement and interest in the subject area, and the ability to structure and organise both the content and forms of work in relation to the goals of the subject area. In addition, the teaching proficiency must have been demonstrated through the ability to contribute to the development and renewal of education and the ability to reflect on their own attitude to education and the results of their work.

Administrative proficiency and leadership must have been demonstrated through the ability to plan, organise and develop activities and personnel.

Collaboration with society is an integral part of the research and educational mission of the higher education institution, where the ability to use collaboration with society as a means to raise the quality of the education and research, its relevance, dissemination, accessibility and application may constitute grounds for assessment. Collaboration within education is demonstrated through the ability to plan, arrange and carry out productive collaboration in an educational context, with the aim of ensuring the relevance of the education and its role in preparing for professional life.

The applicant should show an ability to teach in French. It is desirable that the successful candidate with another mother tongue than Swedish should be able to teach in Swedish within two years from being appointed.

Appointment procedure
The position will be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University on the advice of the Appointments Board. A letter of intent will be required of the applicants who make the short list for the position.

The University applies individual salary scales adapted to the experience of the employee and to the labour market.
