Subject/subject description
The Department of Human Geography conducts courses in Human Geography, Urban and Regional Planning and Geography. We also participate in several multidiscipline programs at the undergraduate and master’s levels.

Main responsibilities
The main duties of a senior lecturer are teaching, research and administration. This position includes monitoring the developments in the subject field of urban and regional planning nationally and internationally regarding research as well as teaching. The applicant is expected to teach courses in our undergraduate and graduate programs, primarily in the urban and regional planning field, including responsibility for course development. Teaching at the undergraduate level is mainly in Swedish. Master courses are taught in English. During the first two years teaching will constitute at least 50% of the position.

Qualification requirements
Eligible applicants for the position of senior lecturer should hold a PhD in Human Geography, or have equivalent research skills and have demonstrated teaching expertise. In addition, a requirement is to have teaching and research merits within, for urban and regional planning, relevant fields.

Teaching proficiency should normally have been demonstrated through teaching experience at both the undergraduate and master’s levels. Teaching proficiency should be well documented and in a manner that makes it possible to assess the quality of the teaching activities.

The applicant must have the ability to cooperate with colleagues as well as other abilities that are required in order to successfully meet the demands of the position.

Assessment criteria
Special and equal emphasis will be placed on teaching and research skills within the main subject area urban and regional planning.

Strong emphasis will be placed on a documented ability to cooperate well with colleagues and fellow researchers.

Strong emphasis will also be placed on having successfully planned, applied for and obtained research project funds from external research funding bodies.

Emphasis will be placed on administrative skills and proven collaboration with the surrounding society and dissemination of research and development findings.

It is a merit to be well acquainted with urban and regional planning in the Swedish context, planning theory and/or having professional experience from the field.

Teaching and learning in higher education
It is a merit to have completed at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education or to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

Additional information
Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement for the position, but the applicant has to be ready to take on administrative and pedagogical tasks that demand an understanding and usage of Swedish after two years of employment.

An applicant who does not have at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education, and is not deemed to have acquired equivalent knowledge, must complete such training within the first two years of employment.
