Offer Description

We are looking for a Senior Lecturer in Building Design who is excited to strengthen and develop teaching at the department, while also having a genuine interest in research. You will educate architects of the future, be part of our research groups working with architectural building design and building planning, and contribute to bridging academic research and education. The position is a full-time permanent faculty employment, to start as soon as possible. 

The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering
The position is located at the Department for Architecture and Civil Engineering  (ACE), division for Building Design . The division of Building Design, BD, is one of three divisions in the broader subject field of Architecture at ACE. BD embraces research and teaching in building design and building planning and production. Our goal is to develop knowledge to support a sustainable architectural design based on high artistic and scientific qualities.

The division has a longstanding tradition of specialization in housing research and education and a more recent excellence area in health care design. The division also has broad national and international collaborations and strong relations with partners outside academia. The division collaborates with two centres hosted by our department, The Center for Housing Architecture, CBA and The Centre for Healthcare Architecture CVA which are platforms for interaction between industry, public agencies and the academy.

Major responsibilities
You will contribute to strengthening the division in basic education and research. As we are responsible for a large number of courses and thesis works, our primary intention is to increase our capacity in teaching. Our courses and education are linked to research, so you are also expected to continue your research and bring them into teaching activities.

The appointment includes teaching assignments on both bachelor's and master's levels in building design with a specific focus on teaching housing design. Your main tasks will be to teach in educational programmes for architecture and architectural technology  but could include courses within engineering programs. You will also contribute to the development of current and future relevant courses. In addition, you will supervise and examine several Master theses each year. Teaching at the bachelor level is held in Swedish and the Master level in English. 

You will also take part in research and are encouraged to continue and develop research activities. You will be a part of our team of senior researchers at the Division for Building Design, ACE, and you are expected to participate in identifying strategic research directions, obtain research funding, and when the possibility arises, supervise PhD students.

An important part of the position is participating in outreach activities and engaging in activities related to our Centres, especially the continued development of the Center for Housing Architecture.

Qualifications
You should have the pedagogic and scientific expertise required for a senior lecturer (universitetslektor) position at Chalmers, please see our Appointment Regulations  Chapter 7.2. 

Chalmers strives to provide top-class education for its students. Therefore, to be employed as a university senior lecturer, you are required to have a PhD in Architecture or equivalent. You should also have a Master of Architecture. Specialisation in housing design is highly meritorious. You are expected to have knowledge of the Swedish or Nordic construction industry and the situation for housing, preferably with practical experience.

You should also have teaching experience in the relevant subjects, be able to develop courses, and lead and coordinate program and course curricula. 

The required qualifications for the position include:

 • Pedagogical skills and teaching experience from teaching and development of education at undergraduate and graduate levels, documented in a pedagogical portfolio.
 • Experience and ability to supervise Bachelor and Master students
 • Experience in architectural practice.
 • Capacity and good potential for scientific research, as evidenced by publication records
 • Interest and potential to attract and lead research projects. This can be shown through the ability to write research proposals, achieved research grants and project leadership.
  •Oral and written proficiency in a Nordic language and in English.  If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers offers Swedish courses, with the aim that you will be able to teach in Swedish within two years.
